1. Who we are
QuestSolo is made and operated by Kerf and Code LLC, a Washington (USA) limited liability company (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at kncadmin@kerfandcode.com or through the contact page. By creating an account or playing, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy.
2. What QuestSolo is
QuestSolo is a solo tabletop role-playing game run by an AI game master. You describe a world, create a character, and play through a story that the AI narrates, maps and illustrates as you go. The story, the characters it invents and the pictures it paints are generated by machine learning models in response to what you type. They are fiction, produced on the fly, and they can be inconsistent, surprising or simply wrong. Nothing the game master says is advice of any kind.
3. Your account
You need an account to play. Sign-in is by email link or Google. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your email login secure. You must be at least 13 years old to use QuestSolo, and at least 18 (or have a parent’s or guardian’s permission) to buy anything. One person, one account; please don’t create extra accounts to multiply the free allowance.
4. Free play, credits and plans
Every account can play 20 game turns a day at no charge. The allowance resets at midnight UTC and does not carry over. Beyond that, turns are paid for with credits. The credit cost of each kind of turn is printed on the plans and credits page; we can change those prices for future turns, never for turns already taken.
Credits come two ways. A credit pack is a one-time purchase; its credits never expire and stay on your account until spent. A subscription adds a pool of credits to your account every month for as long as it runs, and unlocks the features listed for that plan. When a subscription renews, up to 50% of that month’s pool can carry over if unused; the rest of an unspent pool expires at renewal. If a subscription ends, credits already on the account stay spendable.
Credits are a license to use the service, not money. They have no cash value, cannot be transferred or sold, and are not redeemable for cash except where the law requires it. Your daily free turns are always spent before credits.
5. Billing
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Subscriptions are billed monthly in US dollars and renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account page (“Manage subscription”); the plan and its pool stay yours until the end of the period you have already paid for, and no further charges are made. Prices are in US dollars; any sales tax or VAT that applies where you live is shown at checkout. Card statements show the charge as QUESTSOLO.
6. Refunds
Credit packs: if none of the credits from a pack have been used, you can have a full refund within 14 days of purchase. Ask through the contact page. When a pack is refunded, its credits are removed from your account.
Subscriptions: cancelling stops future charges; we do not prorate the month you are in. If you ask within 7 days of a charge and have used less than a tenth of that month’s pool, we will refund that charge in full and end the plan.
Something went wrong: if a turn fails, its credits are returned automatically. If the game breaks in a way that wastes your credits, write to us and we will put them back. We would rather fix a problem than argue about one.
If a charge is disputed with your card issuer instead of with us, we may suspend the account until it is resolved.
7. Your content and ours
What you type into the game is yours. The stories, characters, maps and images the game generates for you are yours to keep, share and use for personal purposes, and you may publish them with a mention of QuestSolo. Because the same models can generate similar things for other players, we can’t promise any generated text or image is unique to you, and we make no claim that generated output is protected by copyright. The QuestSolo software, its rules engine, prompts, design and name remain ours.
We do not use your saved games or your inputs to train machine learning models. Our model providers process your inputs to produce each turn under their own terms; see the privacy policy.
8. Fair use
Don’t use QuestSolo to generate content that is illegal, that sexualizes minors, that harasses or threatens real people, or that you intend to pass off as someone else’s work. Don’t attack, scrape, reverse-engineer or overload the service, resell access or credits, or evade the free allowance with multiple accounts. The game master will refuse some requests; that refusal is part of the service, not a defect. We can suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and refund any unused credit packs when we do unless the breach was serious.
9. Availability and changes
QuestSolo is a small studio’s game and it is still changing. Features, plans, prices and the models behind the game master may change, and the service may be interrupted or, in the worst case, discontinued. If we discontinue it we will give at least 30 days’ notice by email and refund unused credit packs and the unused part of any subscription period. We back up saved games, but you should not treat QuestSolo as the only copy of a story you care about; a finished tale can be downloaded as a keepsake from inside the game.
10. Warranty and liability
QuestSolo is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, and our total liability to you for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits; where that is so, they apply to the extent permitted.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that we cannot settle by talking will be brought in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction whose law gives you protections that cannot be waived, those protections still apply.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For changes that matter, we will email account holders or post a notice in the game before they take effect. Continuing to play after the effective date means you accept the updated terms. The current version always lives at this address.
